After defeating 2 Cold Scorpio in the final of a tournament to crown a new NWA World Heavyweight champion, Douglas throws down the title belt, lifting the ECW Heavyweight title and declaring himself "...the champion of the world". Eastern Championship Wrestling separates from the N.W.A. and renames the promotion Extreme Championship Wrestling. The title is renamed the E.C.W. World Heavyweight Championship.
