Carpentier wins via forfeit when Thesz is unable to compete to due a back injury. A.W.A. offices begin recognizing Carpentier as champion in Omaha, NE, Boston, MA, Atlanta, GA and Los Angeles, CA. The N.W.A. soon withdraws recognition of Carpentier ever being N.W.A. World champion and returns it to Thesz. A.W.A. Georgia continues to recognize Carpentier as world champion.
